Extreme Makeover for Premium .TV prices - new registrars rejoice but most elderly people Will Riot?

Here is the presentation of DN Journal,
updated daily
fill in on the latest buzz going around the domain name industry.

The presentation is compiled by DN Journal editor & Publisher Ron Jackson.

VeriSign blows up .TV - business model prices slashed in domains premium and rejected at standard prices for new registrars renewal rates

VeriSign, which operates the .TV record dropped a bomb during the night - but was a smart bomb, one which must sow dividends for destruction for the record, keyloggers and new registrants .TV (may however be a different story for the registered existing .TV "premium")

(-something we address at a time). As most of you know, .TV domains have been unique (in my opinion, in a bad way) on led terms that the record is considered to be "premium" names hefty price and much worse tags, these same prices had to pay each year when domains emerged for the renewal.

That all changed after midnight last night for people who register domains .TV premium of today (Macrh 19).To begin with, VeriSign slashed prices for each domain of "premium" in its inventory, a change that affected more than 22,000 names. You can download the full list of domains repriced from this page in EnomCentral.com (click on the link entitled "Download .TV Premium list" to the right of the search box).

I think even more important is the decision of the registry to stop loading inflated prices for renewal every year.Instead, any person who registers a name premium on this point pay only the standard renewal rate charged by your domain name registrar not prima .Eso makes the .TV much more attractive proposition for potential investors and developers alike.

Now, I mentioned in paragraph first current .TV premium domain holders may not be so happy about the announcement today, like others because not only those who have registered their names prior to March 19 paid a high price but apparently will continue to be stuck paying the same price and again at the time of renewal.I really don't see how capable of supporting long term that política.Los early adopters should be rewarded with the same jump at the time of renewal premium buyers who came after them are now receiving.

Demand media VP Chris Sheridan

Surprise if VeriSign cannot extend equal treatment the oldest registrants in a future coming apart of this sticky, wickets I like new VeriSign address with .TV and expected that drive a nice extension.

Chris Sheridan, a VP with Demand Media (parent of one of the largest registrars company of. tv eNom.tv) like demasiado.Dijo than "updated for domains .TV premium pricing structure is a great response to the more customers will significantly be .TV now market, while .TV existing customers will be adding names to its such carteras.Como mercado.esperamos these changes mark an extremely positive step and satisfaction in the right direction for the community. TV."

You can read more about eNom take on new policy .TV in a press release put shortly before the news broke.

Peddle to the Metal: $165,000 Sale at Sedo Sends Metal.com to Victory Lane in This Week's Aftermarket Race

Metal.com scored a runaway win in this week's domain aftermarket race, selling for $165,000 at Sedo.com to take the pole position on our new Top 20 Sales Chart. Metal.com finished more than $100,000 ahead of the next closest sale, StockPrices.com at $60,000. Sedo also sold that domain and they went on to sweep 12 of the 20 positions on our all extension leader board.

Sedo's roster included four ccTLDs that broke through the strong .com defensive line to take places on the elite list. Two of those country codes landed in the top ten; #4 Furniture.co.za (South African ccTLD) at $33,000 and #8 MO.de (German ccTLD) at $21,039

The non .com gTLDs had two representatives on the Big Board, led by #5 FuneralHome.net at $30,000. That sale, made by ProForma Inc., the sales wing of Frank Schilling's company, Name Administration, is the second biggest non .com gTLD sale of 2010 to date

By Ron Jackson

ProForma was the only other venue besides Sedo to ring up multiple chart entries, taking five places including four of the first ten. A pair or four-letter .coms helped their cause. #6 Itao.com commanded $25,000 and #7 HRSI.com drew $22,000.

Also earning chart honors this week were Moniker.com who closed the $40,000 sale of #3 FederalAid.com from their DOMAINfest Global live auction, Bido.com who banked $16,500 from the sale of #12 UDRP.com and the AfternicDLS who scored with #14 Swifty.com at $16,000.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 28:

The DN Journal Top 20
Reported Domain Sales - Mon. Feb. 22, 2010 - Sun. Feb. 28, 2010
Euro to Dollar Conversion (? to $) is Based on Rates in Effect March 2, 2010

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

There were a dozen more five-figure .com sales just off the chart led by Sedo's sale of FranceHotels.org for ?9,999 ($13,599). They also sold ISP.co.uk for ?7,500 ($11,250) and a trio of domains for $10,000 each; 2C.com, KCMS.com and Manilla.com

Country Codes

South Africa's .co.za extension has been making some noise in recent months and that trend continued this week when Furniture.co.za produced the leading sale on our new Country Code Top 20 Chart. That domain went for $33,000 at Sedo, a venue that swept 19 of the 20 positions on our latest weekly leader board. With the 2010 World Cup soccer championship coming to South Africa in June, that nation is going to be in a global spotlight that may add additional fuel to the .co.za fire.

The next three spots went to a trio of five-figure .de domain (German ccTLDs). You saw all of those on the all extension leader board at the top of this report. The biggest country code sale you haven't seen yet is #6 DI.de at $9,520. The .de and .co.uk (Great Britain) extensions pied up eight chart entries each.

The other countries earning chart entries this week were Italy (.it), France (.fr) and Australia (.com.au). Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Feb. 28:

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs: .biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .pro & .tel)

The $30,000 sale of FuneralHome.net by ProForma Inc. tops our new Global Contenders Top 20 Chart and ranks as the second highest GC sale so far in 2010, trailing only Poker.org (admittedly trailing by a mile since Poker.org went for $1 million last week).

The FuneralHome.net sale was one of three five-figure transactions in the non .com gTLD category this week - all of which were listed in the all extension section earlier. The top GC sale you haven't seen yet is #4 Testberichte.info, a name that brought $8,160 at Sedo.

That was the only .info on the leader board. The .nets set the pace by sweeping 10 spots, followed by .org with seven. .Biz hit the daily double with a pair of names that reached the top ten; #7 Gutscheine.biz at $6,800 and #9 Denver.biz at $4,700. Both of those domains were sold by Sedo whose 12 chart entries led all venues.

A memorable holiday in a corner of the country that forgot to Internet

My wife Diana and I had just come back from a lovely summer holiday which, for the first time I can remember, took me beyond the long reach of the Internet during the fourth weekend of July. Before fully escape the clutches of the web, we began the journey (June 30) last Wednesday in Asheville, North Carolina, a popular destination in the mountains to the scenic western border of the State of grace. We went to Asheville because we had always wanted to see the famous Biltmore Mansion, the largest private residence ever built in America.  Mansion of Biltmore in Asheville, NC
(is sitting on the edge of the source Diana in foreground) 175,000 Square foot House, with 250 rooms, including 40 baths, was built in an impressive estate 8,000 acres by George Washington Vanderbilt for a period of six years from 1889-1895. It is still owned by his descendants today, but the House and its fabulous gardens have been open to the public since 1930 and farm attracts more than a million visitors annually. The House is even more spectacular interior but photos are not allowed indoors so unfortunately that I cannot share these places with you. If you get the chance to go see it for yourself, do it - never assure that it will be not disappointed. We spent a couple of days in Asheville, then rent a car and drove to a little over two hours south to historic Abbeville, South Carolina (first meeting to consider the possibility of seceding from the Union was held there in 1860 and five years later, the Confederate President Jefferson Davis met in Abbeville his generals to decide whether or not to continue the fight in the civil war.) The decision to surrender was made and subsequently executed by the general Robert e. Lee at Appomattox). Hearthside Manor, bed and breakfasts where we stayed in the rich history of Abbeville, Abbeville, South Carolina and beautiful Victorian houses (we stayed in one – a charming B & B, called the Hearthside Manor) were not the reason we went to Abbeville. Our eldest daughter and her husband had purchased a House of the Secession of Lake, 15 km northwest of Abbeville, on holiday in hosted a little over a year that is done, and invited us to come to see him and spend the fourth of July weekend with them and their friends. Live statewide in Charleston and have been driving four hours to Abbeville almost every weekend because they bought the place. I don't like to drive around the block and could not understand why anyone would such a trip so often. Now I know. Above: a view of Lake secession of the Lake House.
Bottom: Departure on July 4 with our son-in-law Pat, the wheel of your pontoon boat on the Lake. Didn't have no Internet access in the Lake and mobile telephones worked only occasionally, leaving me off from the outside world for the first time since the entry into the business domain. I am busy normally every minute awakening as spending every hour of every day just to enjoy the landscape and talk to family and new friends made to feel as if it had dropped to a crawl. Although we were far less than a week, she felt as he had a break from month duration of normal routine. People with homes in the Lake have formed close friendship and spend a lot of time together. On the night of the 4th, join some 30 persons (including children, parents and grandparents), Chris Brown neighbor to a large barbecue House.Brown owns a popular local grocery store (Corley market in Greenwood, SC) and he knows how to make a right of parrillada.Al falling darkness, all create chairs along the coast of the House for the annual fireworks show the stages of the city on the Lake. Above: show our chairs moving down to the coast to see the 4th of July Fireworks.
